Bio

Mario Liebensteiner is Professor of Economics, with a focus on Energy Markets and Energy Systems Analysis, at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU). His research examines energy markets, environmental and energy policy, the regulation of network industries, and issues of price formation and competition. He is a member of the Academies’ Initiative “Energy Systems of the Future” (ESYS), a joint initiative of acatech, Leopoldina and the Union of the German Academies, and represents Energie Campus Nürnberg in the research area of technology economics. He studied economics and business administration at Johannes Kepler University Linz and City University of Hong Kong, and subsequently earned a doctorate in economics from Vienna University of Economics and Business. Before joining FAU, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Vienna University of Economics and Business and the Technical University of Kaiserslautern. From July 2020 to June 2026, he was Assistant Professor at FAU.
